Marks of Discipleship
Power Surge is a helpful acronym for 6 basic faith practices or marks of
discipleship that will facilitate the power of the Holy Spirit's to be at
work in and through our lives.
Michael W. Foss, who is senior pastor of Lutheran Church
of the Redeemer, an Atlanta, Georgia, congregation of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America, is the author of the book Power Surge
(2000, Fortress Press.) Power Surge was the focus of the most recent Christ
Lutheran Church congregational retreat to continue spiritual growth in our
lives.
Spiritual Direction Groups
Individuals in Spiritual Direction groups assist one
another in listening for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Group time is
sacred time spent together both in silence and in sharing. These groups are
for anyone who desires to go deeper in the spiritual journey.
We follow a process developed by Rose Mary Dougherty. In
her book, Group Spiritual Direction, she describes the process as
grounded in Mystery. It uses a a cycle of silence, sharing, silence,
response from the group, again silence. The process repeats so that all
individuals have time for sharing and response. At the end, the group
reflects on its time together.
